Letter from the Front: Insurgents fight for the Souls of Two Parties
By now it’s a commonplace that the frightened GOP establishment is fighting a hostile take-over by media reality candidate, Donald Trump.
The Wisconsin primary on Tuesday might provide a bump in the road as the fanatical Cruz supporters are expected to turn out and give the Evangelical wing a victory. In either case, Trump and Cruz are symbolic of GOP extremism and the tendency toward fascism, supported by a GOP. This is a GOP, which refuses to participate in the traditional and constitutional duty to govern as elected representatives and has reversed the historic gains of average Americans going back to the New Deal age of Franklin Roosevelt.
Meanwhile the Democratic party establishment, led by the Obama/Clinton wing is becoming more and more nervous by the day as insurgent supporters, led by Bernie Sanders reject the twenty-year tilt toward reactionary Republican politics, led first by the Clintons and then reinforced by Obama, despite lip-service and bones thrown to the hoi polloi.
(Under Obama even African Americans have lost ground economically and, as Black Lives Matters points out, the tilt toward right-wing policing and prosecution tactics has become more, not less, pervasive. The jury’s out on Obama care: boon or bust for consumers or insurance companies?)
Hilary Clinton’s support for AIPAC and Israel reminds one of her retrograde policies of war and reactionary regime change during her tenure as Secretary of State for President Obama. Obama’s “kill list” (by drone sans due process), continued use of “extraordinary rendition,” and the hypocritical lectures on human rights, speaks of an American president who can’t end the “Gitmo” scandal. The Obama DOJ has prosecuted more whistleblowers under the WWI espionage act than all other presidents combined. His recent call on journalists to hold candidates and officials accountable is lamentable hypocrisy.
The ethically bankrupt state of RINOs and DINOS or politics in Washington D.C. has stimulated two insurgencies but, according to numerous polls, Sanders beats Trump easily in November.
Lazy thinkers, the democrats (in name only) who support Hilary Clinton, fail to see the emerging Maggie Thatcher/Henry Kissinger character. She’s shown us who she is. Regardless of the lip service given to “family and social values,” Clintonism or Hilary’s “careerism” represents Wall St., Oil and Gas, as well as the upper echelons of the elite political class. Clintonites preach social justice while they pick your pocket and continue to enrich the wealthy, thanks to the end of Glass-Steagall, Bill’s great contribution to unregulated banking.
Meanwhile, here’s a brief look into the Bern movement here in Taos from the desk of David Cortez, “Bern” organizer.
Over 100 people gathered at the Kachina Lodge for a Barnstorm event hosted by Meghan McFail. Organizers asked for guests to host a phone bank for Bernie as well as commit to canvassing in the future. A discussion was held about winning Taos County and supporting efforts throughout the state and country.
The primary election in NM is June 7th.
Bernie has had volunteers throughout the state in places like Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Albuquerque organizing parades and making thousands of calls to early key states. Sanders has rebounded recently and daily skirmishes on social media, like debates and home turf change, last about 48 hours before a new discussion topic explodes.
A recent article claimed Clinton was trying to win her home state, New York, and prompted immediate memes pointing out Sanders grew up in Brooklyn, where Clinton headquarters is located. Memes claim that Clinton moved there as a carpetbagger. Other memes countered her request for Sanders to change his tone by stating Sanders’ New York accent is better suited to debate the other New Yorker, Donald Trump.
A recent Nate Silver piece claims the “come from behind victory” for Sanders is nearly impossible. But Sanders claims it’s doable and local volunteers need to keep the flames “Berning for Sanders” in Taos.
Discussion about lack of coverage from local and national media as well as unfair party support for Clinton took up a portion of Sanders event in Taos.
Recently, at the Democratic Party Pre Primary Convention, State Party Chair, Deborah Halland canceled a Presidential straw poll since it appeared that Sanders supporters had quadrupled the number of “Ready for Hillary” folks. Sanders supporters had ten times the enthusiasm of Clinton supporters.
Albuquerque Sanders supporters also organized for the Cesar Chavez day parade and had the largest contingents of marchers. Reports out of Nevada now indicate that Sanders actually won that state. Feel the Bern as Sanders lights the fires: Take back your country.
