As the security services gather evidence and subvert the triumphant Trump, it appears that the American establishment, media and governing classes, including the permanent American bureaucracy, are preparing to “Dump Trump.”
Political forces aim at forcing the issue of the 25th amendment, a necessity in the Washington power struggle from the point of view of the establishment. Consequently, Taos Friction predicts Mike Pence will be elevated to the role first of “Acting President” to save appearances, due to the reality of a minority of voters having elected a sleazy real estate developer as President.
Apparently the narcissistic reality TV star has dallied with a variety of Putin/Russian oligarchs and kleptocrats while also showing contempt for the establishment.
The current quandary focuses attention on the republican majority, which, in their lust for power, has sacrificed principles of patriotism and ignored the culture of Christian compassion. Ends do not justify the means.
Trump supporters will scream as they watch the swamp creatures, appointed by Trump, fight a rear-guard action and retake the D.C. wetlands under cover of the fog rising above the Capital city.
Bush destabilized the Middle East. Trump is destabilizing the USA.
Though much about Trump has been written, the major media has largely suppressed the facts, due to interests in short-term profits. So we have this republican Frankenstein, who will be set upon by pitchforks brandished not by the hoi polloi but by secret agents. Pence will be seen as the quiet man who saves the “appearances” of a democratic republic even as the Deep State exerts its will over a compliant political class.
This last weekend we saw the extraordinary spectacle of Trump cabinet secretaries, like Defense Secretary Mattis, as well as Vice President Pence and Senator John McCain offering a carrot to European and world leaders, while contradicting an American President. Currently the Ways and Means Committee in the House of Representatives holds Trump’s tax returns in abeyance as the stick or final confirmation of the Tweeter’s unsavory doings.
In “The Purloined Letter,” the inventor of the literary detective literary form, Mr. Poe, bases the mystery on the concept of the letter “hidden in plain sight.” What could be more obvious than Trump’s refusal to release tax returns or watching the Trump family currently profit from the patriarch’s position as president?
Never mind the contempt Trump displays for the customs and duties of the office.
Leaders like Senator Mitch McConnell and Representative Paul Ryan are caught between a rock and a hard place: they made a deal with the devil and now they must recant, potentially subjecting the GOP to massive losses in the mid-term elections. The democrats, however, appear weak-kneed and wimpy, incapable of taking advantage of the failed GOP president.
But the Resistance grows and the Republic is in danger.
As Lincoln said at Gettysburg, “Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure.” He was referring to a nation founded on the ideals of the Declaration of Independence, “conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal” and “that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The great emancipator used Gettysburg as an opportunity to by-pass the flaws of the U.S. Constitution, which referred to American Indians as non-persons and African-Americans as only “three-fifths” of a human being.
Republicans like “originalist Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and his fellow travelers on the Roberts court along with Trump and Bannon, McConnell, Paul Ryan, and AG Jeff Sessions have been fighting a rear-guard action ever since against Lincoln and in favor of “White makes Right.”
But a house divided against itself cannot stand. The verdict of history stands with Lincoln.
Trump may not depart quietly but he will go. Nixon did far less and vacated the office under threat of impeachment. For Trump in his person reveals the blatant “casino capitalism” normally kept under wraps by complex accounting schemes as elite financiers plunder the poor in America. So the bankers and the rest of the gaming commissioners are getting ready to revoke Trumps license, lest he destroy the rules and the country and the peasants pick up pitchforks and come for them, the elite shivering at home in their gated communities.
Informed readers know “The Man Who Would Be King” is certifiable and obviously incapable of carrying out the duties of the office. So the establishment will give him a choice: Bellevue or Trump Tower?
