A Father’s Day Homily on America’s broken promise to La Familia

Today Democratic Christendom in America breeds heretics, named Trump, Sessions, and Sanders in the White House. Yet, Socrates, Jesus, and Hillel whisper in our ears. Below we humanists remind the reader of our Greco-Roman Judeo-Christian heritage and the rich tradition of the moral imagination.

For the heretics have forgotten (Luke 18:15-17) that “they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples [Trump supporters] saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them [ICE, Trump, Sessions, Sanders] unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.”

The “Right to Lifers” today stand with “ICE” as the praetorian guard rips babies from the breast of mothers or separates toddlers and children from their parents unto prisons.

Under the aegis of NRA, Pagan believers would harm the peacemakers, so the Congress and the Courts and Supporters of the Second Amendment permit the execution of innocents in Parkland, Florida and in Las Vegas, Nevada, et al;

And I say unto you that said AR-15 death penalty, rationalized by the Second Amendment, violates the Declaration of Independence, wherein the “Right to Life, liberty, and happiness” has long endured;

And I say unto you heretics that God’s law and the U.S. Constitution prohibit the violation of due process or humanities’ law: for your practice amounts to an abomination.

For Jesus said (John 8:7) “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” For you and your fanatics have cast stones at innocent Emma Gonzales, this era’s Joan of Arc at Parkland.

And I remind Secular Humanists that Socrates also said, “It is better to suffer evil than to do it.” And that “Evil is the result of ignorance” and that “Evil doers must be educated, instructed as to what truly is the good and then they will choose it.”

And may the Israelis remember the Golden Rule, and the essence of the Torah, when Palestinians approach. For, according to Rabbi Hillel, “What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor. This is the whole Torah; all the rest is commentary.”

And in the King James Bible (Luke 23:34) Jesus says, “Father, forgive them [heretics]; for they know not what they do.”

Socrates expresses hope, Jesus advocates mercy, and Hillel calls for justice, yet in the White House today, the Heretics render little to God and the human race but much to Caesar. As Yeats said so eloquently in The Second Coming: “The best lack all conviction, while the worst/Are full of passionate intensity.”

Prayers and thoughts no longer serve. Marx said, alas, “The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it.” Amen.
