El Mitote: Taos, El Prado, Beyond

Roundhouse callers say Big Gun Sen. Carlos Cisneros may be looking at a double-barreled blast during the upcoming election in 2012. TMS Board Prez Chuby Tafoya and Mayor Darren Cordova of Taos have sent up leaky trial balloons. Cisneros, Mr. Seniority of Questa, is a challengeable but formidable opponent. It takes two to tango and three to turn a dance into a chorus line. We can’t wait.

And who will Little Ramon Martinez support? Oh my, favors owed, everywhere! Better call my sister and ask her what to do. But which one?

Friction foresees an opponent for Rep. Bobby Gonzales but who has the courage? Everybody needs work. And the public dole has the deepest pockets. Cisneros and Gonzales are well cast and deserve support. You can’t buy seniority. But envidia comes naturally and Taosenos love to shoot themselves in the foot and put foot in mouth.

For instance, the deeply neurotic KCEC Board of Trustees have taken themselves for a ride on the backs of the Coop members and many of them will support Mayor Darren if he runs against Sen. Cisneros. (While on the board, the senior senator warned trustees against propane expansion.) The Mayor bailed out of the Bad Boys from their Command Center Follies. You may soon see Traveling Trustees dining at Casa Los Cordovas. (Look for Godie’s ghost serving up fondue in the kitchen!)

A fool and his money are soon parted but not at the Coop–ask Francis Movidas and Toby Changing Horses. We need a few honest men and women to run for the Coop in the spring. Or we need two gadflies on the board. Dare I say it: Support Nick and Erminio in the spring—just to give Luis a headache.

We support the Family Dollar Store in El Prado but not one that Wites-Out the Green Acres in front of Overland. How about the Blinking Light Intersection or what about replacing one of the gravel yards downtown? We don’t need to stain the skirts of the Sacred Mountain. Speaking of commerce, here’s a note from the opposition to Rudy Walmart. (He’s the guy on the Council who believes newcomers should be seen but not heard.) Rudy and the Mayor never met a corporate franchise they didn’t love. Silva goes along for the dirt work contracts.

Dear Taosenos Against the Walmart Superstore (TAWSS) and Interested Community Members:

There will be an informational meeting on 11/30/11 at the Youth and
Family Center from 6-8pm to discuss the Mayor’s and Town Council proposal to review and revise the Land Use Development Code (LUDC). Potential revisions could impact the development of Big Box stores over 80,000 sq. ft.

The agenda:
-Discussion and speakers
-After the discussion, pending consensus, TAWSS will meet briefly to organize our political, legal, outreach, educational and financial committees.

Thank you,
Fritz Hahn, TAWSS
