Once again, the crowds gather to celebrate the past and present in Taos during Fiesta on historic Taos Plaza. This year’s event focuses on the rejuvenation and renovation of the old County Courthouse. County Commissioners, the Town of Taos, Amigos de Taos, TEN (The Entrepreneurial Network), and Kit Carson Electric Coop invite Taosenos to visit the courthouse, view the murals in the old courtroom and the beginning of the county’s historic photo exhibition. The old jail where Easy Rider was filmed will also be open to the public.

Thanks to cooperation between the town and county, an Architect, David Henry, has been researching the history and potential remodeling of the old gal. In about 1932 the shops and buildings on the north side of the Plaza burned. The fire prompted citizens to incorporate the town and found a fire department in 1934. The “new” courthouse was built in one year. Now, commissioners and town councilors are looking for dough to update code requirements. The town and county invite citizens to visit and offer their ideas regarding the purpose and plans for a historic Plaza cultural center.

Here’s a Fiesta agenda.
