All’s Well That Ends Well!

Mother’s Day celebration concert continues in Kit Carson Park!

A heartfelt thank you for the overwhelming amount of support we have received in continuing with this traditional event in Taos. In the last week I have received many calls, messages and e-mails from community leaders and local businesses expressing their support.

I would also like to thank all the neighboring communities for their offers and support in continuing this tradition. My commitment has been and will always be to make this event free of charge so that multiple generations of families can afford to attend and enjoy the very best in New Mexico Music. This event has made history in Taos and has become a family tradition in Taos and primarily for these reasons it has to STAY IN TAOS.

Instead of the Taos County owned Filemon Sanchez Park, it will now be held at Kit Carson Park. Since Kit Carson Park is a Town of Taos owned facility, and since I am Mayor of the Town of Taos, I will simply recuse myself as I have done in the past on any matter coming before the Town Council regarding Mother’s Day.

As many of you know, Kit Carson Park is no stranger to music festivals and concerts. We recently hosted Mumford and Sons, and Solar Fest concerts have always proven to be a success at our beautiful park.

I would like to thank the members of the Town Council for their support of this event throughout the years. I would also like to thank those commissioners of Taos County, past, present & future who have and will continue to support this event. Placing our culture and heritage above politics.

Moving forward, we will continue this event in Taos but unfortunately without the support of Taos County government. I am however always open to having discussions with current or future commissioners on having Taos County back on board as a sponsor of this traditional, cultural and “Free to the public” event that clearly is and has proven to be an economic boost for Taos. As many of us musicians acknowledge, performing for traditional and cultural events such as this, ensures that our music lives on for generations to come.

Que Viva la Tradicion y Nuestra Cultura. Y Que Viva Nuestra Musica Nuevo Mexicana!
