Darn Voters: Darn Politics

Dear Reader, “I’m shocked, shocked” to read that, according to the local weekly, politics played a role in the recent town elections and subsequent appointments. Won’t Taosenos ever learn?

Darn voters.

The editor says, “Rick Bellis, who has served as deputy county manager and other county posts, was named town manager, but it wasn’t as clean” (Friction bold). And “Bellis has proven himself to be a competent manager since joining the county in 2010, handling several departments on his own, often at the same time. However, his zealous support of Barrone’s election campaign suggests this appointment was based as much on politics as it was on merit.”— The Taos News (March 20, 2014)

Unclean? What does that mean? Is he not Godly enough? Personal hygiene problems? Has Bellis been seized by spirits from the dark side…”the county side?” Did he really campaign for Barrone and persuade the members of his large family to vote for Da Mayor?

Darn Voters.

These cruelest candidates, Barrone, Cantu, and Hahn now the winners, who whomped the incumbents, played politics in recent elections. Why “They” (the winners) took advantage of the incumbents’ election-year mistakes and years of government mismanagement. So an  overwhelming number of voters turned against the incumbents (and The Taos News’s endorsements).

Darn voters.

These voters elected a certain county commissioner…as the new mayor. Did the voters know two interlopers supported the new Mayor? Why they (Barrone, Cantu, Hahn) voted to appoint an executive team, manager and attorney, who are tried and true experienced members of local government. Why can’t the Mayor hire a “headhunter” and do a nationwide search for an itinerant professional? Why hire locals? One a newcomer, and one an ordained native son?

Darn locals.

Now who will remind voters that “the county has no standing” and that “the county can’t be trusted.”

Darn voters. Darn politics.
