Sipapu Picks Up 7.5″ of Snow, Opens Biggest Terrain Park in Resort History
Vadito, NM: Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort unveiled the largest terrain park in resort history this week, and mountain officials opened the park just in time for the 7.5″ of snow that blanketed the ski area today.
Located on the intermediate trail Don Diego, the new park includes eleven big features, including a 38-foot tabletop gap jump, a 20-foot A-frame box (which includes a three piece feature – otherwise known as a dragon tongue – made up of two urban take-offs and a straight mount), and several rails, boxes and jumps.
“Don Diego is by far our most impressive park we’ve ever built,” Bradley said. “Our guests have been telling us they want to go bigger, and this park certainly delivers. Skiers and snowboarders will be able to link more features at this park than any other terrain park in New Mexico.”
Mountain officials say today’s snowfall (and the additional accumulation expected tonight and tomorrow) will make Don Diego – and all of Sipapu’s mountain – even more fun for guests. All 41 of the resort’s trails are open, and all five lifts are in operation.
The Don Diego terrain park is the resort’s fourth terrain park. Sipapu’s Playground and Flight School are New Mexico’s only organic parks, and Pedro’s Park offers beginners an opportunity to try basic features.
Don Diego will be the featured course for this Saturday’s King and Queen of the Mountain Terrain Park Competition, sponsored by NMX Sports, an Albuquerque-based non-profit organization that introduces youth to non-traditional sports. Entry fee is $35 and includes an all-mountain, full-day lift ticket. Season passholders pay just $10 for the entry fee.
Sipapu is open everyday for the 2014-2015 season and lifts turn from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lift ticket rates are $44 for adults (ages 21-59), and $37 for teens (ages 13-20), and $29 for kids (ages 7-12) and seniors (ages 61-69). As with every season, kids ages 6 and younger, 4th and 5th graders, and guests who are ages 40, 60 or 70 years and better receive a free lift ticket everyday.

Union Endorses School Board Candidate
The Taos Federation of United School Employees Local 1450 unanimously endorses Cynthia Trujillo-Van Every for the District 4 School Board seat. We honor and commend Mr. David Chavez for his intentions to serve, but his term as a Board member has been marked by extremely adversarial labor relations, broken communication, low morale, squandered resources and a loss of good will. Cynthia Trujillo-VanEvery is eager to collaborate with parents, community members, students and professional educators to address the issues our district must resolve in order to support student success. Her willingness to listen to multiple viewpoints demonstrates that she is an accomplished communicator. Timely, respectful, and open communication is key to addressing the complex problems educators face in our district, our state and our nation.
