photo 1First, Saturday, Oct. 25, Bareiss Gallery will host an opening for the protester in chief, called: “Jeff Northrup Signs.” The man who has dubbed himself, “the most hated man” in Taos, will be feted and roasted along with the signs that politicians love to hate. Northrup, a survivor of lawsuits, libelous remarks by shock jocks, and assaults by Tow Truck Gangs, is the man with the Big Cojones. He will sign autographs and pose for photos with his protest signs from 4 to 6 pm.

Then on Sunday afternoon, Mr. Northrup, along with several Taos Living Treasures will be honored at Bataan Hall.

NorthrupYou are cordially invited to the 23rd annual Taos Living Treasures ceremony on Sunday October 26, 2014 at 1:30 pm. At Bataan Hall on Civic Plaza Drive. Seven people will be honored- three from 2010 and four from 2014. The reason for including two separate years is to also honor the Living Treasures who did not receive their awards  after the announcement of the selection when the Mayor clamped down due to a disagreement with the selections in 2010.

Honorees are as follows: 2010, Chet N. Mitchell, Jeff Northrup and Feloniz Trujillo; 2014, Clorinda “Cleo” Cisneros, Mike Concha, Manuel “Manjo” Trujillo and Carl Anthony “Cat” Tsosie Jr. The honorees are selected from letters sent to the Town of Taos from members of the public. A panel of judges selects two honorees from this pool of letters. Taos Pueblo and Picuris Pueblo select their own honorees.

The ceremony includes speeches of tribute, presentation of the plaques, entertainment and a meal catered by the Taos High Culinary Arts Program. Entry to the event is free of charge and open to the public. Special thanks to this year’s Mayor and Town Council, an administration, which believes in honoring cultural treasures and symbols of free speech.
